LUXFER Carbon Composite Cylinders
Luxfer carbon composite cylinders weigh up to 80% less than steel cylinders and 40% less than aluminum cylinders of equivalent capacity. In fact, they’re the lightest-weight high-pressure cylinders in the world— and now they’re available for medical oxygen.
- A TOGGLE™ (folding builtin on/off lever eliminates need for wrench or handwheel) is included on each cylinder.
- Each cylinder has an inner liner made from Luxfer's proprietary L6X alloy that is strengthened with an aerospace-grade carbon-fiber wrapping that completely surrounds the liner.

Are the LUXFER Carbon Composite Cylinders rated for continual outside usage or are they susceptible to UV degradation?
Anonymous- On Friday, 31 March 2023
LUXFER Carbon Composite Cylinders do have UV protection. From the manufacturer: Our cylinders have either a clear gel coat or paint that has UV protection. Like any coating, constant exposure to the sun will eventually lead to discoloration, cracking, etc. Our cylinders are no different in this regard. So, while a cylinder can be left exposed to sunlight for a time, years of exposure will cause the coating to break down and eventually cause the composite to show signs of weathering. There would not be an effect on the structural integrity of the cylinder, but there is a very good chance the cylinder would fail re-qualification for visual inspection.
